Water main break snarls traffic in Lanikai

One lane of Aalapapa Street in Lanikai has been reopened following a broken, 8-inch water main at the intersection of Aalapapa and Mokulua Drive.

The break was reported at 7 a.m., followed by the initial closure of both lanes of traffic.

The Honolulu Board of Water Supply said repair crews are working with Honolulu police to contraflow traffic in the area to allow residents in and out of Lanikai.

The Board of Water Supply said bus routes are being detoured.

Four customers are expected to be without water and a spigot has been set up on a water hydrant to provide temporary service.
