High surf pounded Makapuu. A high surf advisory for east-facing shores of Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, Maui and the Big Island is in effect until 6 p.m. tomorrow, according to the National Weather Service.

A high surf advisory for east-facing shores of Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, Maui and the Big Island is in effect until 6 p.m. tomorrow, according to the National Weather Service.

The advisory, issued early this morning, said a moderate north/northeast swell will combine with choppy trade wind seas to produce high surf for east facing shores through Tuesday afternoon.

Expect surf of 6 to 9 feet, strong breaking waves, shore break and strong longshore and rip currents, making swimming difficult and dangerous.

“Beachgoers, swimmers and surfers should heed all advice given by ocean safety officials and exercise caution,” said the advisory. “Boats should expect recreational surfers and body boarders utilizing harbor channels to access surfing areas.”
