Kamehameha officials failed to report or investigate sex abuse allegations

    Alika Bajo, 57, said he has been struggling with an inner rage since he was sexually abused as a 13-year-old Kamehameha Schools student in the 1970s. The alleged perpetrator was Dr. Robert Browne, a psychiatric consultant to Kamehameha who committed suicide in 1991. Bajo and 33 other plaintiffs — mostly former Kamehameha students — have sued the school, Browne’s estate and St. Francis Medical Center, where Browne was chief of psychiatry.

In the years after the suicide, school officials would hear of more allegations that Dr. Robert Browne, a psychi­atric consultant to Kamehameha, had sexually molested troubled male students during private counseling sessions, often at his soundproof office at St. Francis Medical Center. Read more
