The bathhouse on the Diamond Head end of Ala Moana Regional Park is slated for closure starting Monday for major renovations that will last into the summer.

The $668,000 project awarded to Amethyst Builder Inc. will include the installation of skylights, reroofing, repairs to the tile floor and improvements to comply with American with Disabilities Act regulations within the restrooms. Security gates and screens will also be added, in addition to the replacement of the drinking fountain outside.

During the duration of the project, the bathhouse will be closed to the public. No portable toilets will be provided since other bathrooms are available nearby.

The improvements are a result of Mayor Kirk Caldwell’s “9-Point Community Action Plan,” which called for immediate improvements to the park. Last November, surveillance cameras were installed at the bathhouse and a similar facility at the Ewa-end of the park.
