Kaiser Permanente Hawaii and Hawaii Dental Service both said Wednesday they will absorb costs for health services rendered in November for Island Air employees even though the now-bankrupt airline did not pay its premiums for the month.
Island Air said on the day it shut down Nov. 10 that it would pay employees’ health premiums for the month to enable them to retain coverage, but the airline never made the payments.
Kaiser said it will absorb $40,742 in unpaid health care premiums while Hawaii Dental Service will forgive $14,157 in premiums.
On Tuesday, Hawaii Medical Assurance Association said it wouldn’t charge for more than $137,000 in unpaid premiums.
Target aims to boost same-day delivery
NEW YORK >> Target plans to boost its same-day delivery capability by paying $550 million for Shipt, its latest move to try to catch up with Amazon.
Shipt, which charges members $99 a year, sends people out to choose and deliver groceries from stores. Target said Wednesday that it will add more products to the service next year, such as home goods and electronics. Target shoppers will have to make orders through Shipt’s app or website and pay the annual fee to get same-day delivery. There are plans to incorporate Shipt into Target’s app and website, but the companies did not say when that would happen.
Minneapolis-based Target expects half of its 1,800 stores to offer Shipt’s service by next summer. It will be available at most stores by the 2018 holiday season, it said.

Diagnostic Laboratory Services has hired and promoted the following:
>> James Kregness has been hired as manager of the DLS lab located at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Kregness was previously an assistant lab manager at the Clinical Laboratories of Hawaii lab at Hilo Medical Center.
>> Renee Nakagawa has joined DLS as manager for Human Resources Operations. Nakagawa was previously working for the University of Hawaii Research Corp. and served as a human resources manager, senior human resources specialist and assistant director of human resources.
Hawaii Realtors has announced that Ken Hiraki is their new government affairs director. He previously served as the director of government and community affairs at Hawaiian Telcom. Prior to that, Hiraki served as a state representative for Oahu’s 28th District, where he held the chairman position in various committees, including Ocean and Marine Resources, Transportation, Energy and Environmental Protection, and Consumer Protection and Commerce.
