Firefighters are investigating the cause of a two-alarm fire at an elderly couple’s home this morning in Aiea.

Firefighters were dispatched about 11:15 a.m. to a single-family home in the 98-1020 block of Kaonohi Street and found heavy smoke with flames coming from the garage, said Honolulu Fire Department Capt. Michael Jones.

About 34 firefighters responded and bought the fire under control by 11:36 a.m.

The residents, a married couple in their 80s, were checked out by firefighters at a neighbor’s home and declined transport to a hospital, firefighters said.

The American Red Cross responded to help the residents, and fire crews were still examining the burned structure this afternoon.

A damage estimate was under investigation.
