Rainbow Warrior volleyball completes doubleheader sweep

No. 4 Hawaii completed a rare doubleheader sweep today, finishing Off the Block’s Grow the Game Challenge volleyball tournament with straight-set wins over No. 13 Grand Canyon and Lincoln Memorial in Nashville, Tenn.

In today’s first match, junior hitter Stijn van Tilburg put down 14 kills and sophomore opposite Rado Parapunov added 10 in 25-20, 25-21, 25-20 sweep of the Antelopes. Sophomore middle Dalton Solbrig had eight kills with no errors on 12 swings for the Rainbow Warriors (6-0) in the win over the ‘Lopes (5-1).

In the second match, Hawaii went mainly with its bench with sophomore opposite Brandon Rattray and sophomore hitter Colton Cowell making their first career starts in the 25-18, 25-13, 25-15 win over the Railsplitters (0-2).

Rattray finished with a career-high 14 kills along with eight digs and four blocks, and Cowell posted 11 kills, four digs, and two aces.

Van Tilburg and junior setter Joe Worsley were named to the nine-member all-tournament team.

Hawaii returns home to host No. 3 UCLA on Jan. 26 and 28.
