Jami Zhong, 21, of Salt Lake, was crowned the Chinese Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii’s 69th Narcissus Queen on Saturday evening at Hawaii Theatre in Honolulu.
Despite the pandemonium that occurred on Saturday due to a false incoming missile alert in Hawaii, the Narcissus Queen pageant went on and crowned a new winner.
Jami Zhong, 21, of Salt Lake, was crowned the Chinese Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii’s 69th Narcissus Queen at Hawaii Theatre in Chinatown. She also won the Miss Photogenic, Miss Popularity and Miss Talent awards.
Nine contestants vied for the title. Kristina Yee Pollock won the First Princess title, Tyler Ching Ordenstein was Second Princess, Tiffany Chen was Third Princess and Katherine Kaw took the Fourth Princess title.
The Narcissus Queen and her court of four princesses are awarded scholarships and prizes and represent the local Chinese community and the state of Hawaii through the Chinese Chamber of Commerce.
Zhong was born in Guangdong, China, and is the daughter of Fiona Lian and Zimin Zhong, according to a press release. A nursing major at the University of Hawaii Manoa, Zhong hopes to become a registered nurse. She speaks Cantonese and Mandarin as well as English.
Her interests include singing, karaoke, badminton and playing the guzheng (a Chinese string instrument).
