Brown water advisories posted from Kauai to Big Island

The Hawaii Department of Health issued additional brown water advisories today for several coastlines in the state due to stormwater runoff entering coastal waters.

On Kauai, advisories were issued for Haena Beach, Kalihiwai Bay and Hanalei Bay.

On Oahu, a brown water advisory was issued for Oneula Beach Park due to high surf resulting in stormwater runoff there. An earlier advisory at Waimea Bay remained in effect this afternoon.

Brown water advisories also remained in effect this afternoon on Hawaii island, from Hamakua to Kalapana.

The health department advised the public to stay out of water if it is brown because it may contain pathogens, chemicals, and associated flood debris.

Water advisories, with maps, are viewable at the Health Department’s website.
