Wahine basketball stays winless on BWC road

The Hawaii women’s basketball team remained winless on the road in Big West Conference play with a 71-61 defeat at UC Santa Barbara today.

Senior guard Sarah Toeaina scored 25 points, vaulting her three spots up the UH career scoring chart to No. 16, but she did not receive enough help as a fourth-quarter Rainbow Wahine rally was turned back. Point guard Tia Kanoa added 14 points and nine assists in defeat for UH (9-14, 2-8 BWC).

The eighth-place Wahine committed 21 turnovers after giving it up 26 times in a two-point loss at Cal Poly on Thursday and got swept for the third straight BWC road trip, dropping them to 0-6 away in conference. UCSB also committed 21 turnovers but capitalized better, outscoring UH 26-17 off of giveaways.

Forward Drew Edelman dominated inside, scoring 27 points on 11-for-17 shooting with 12 rebounds for the Gauchos (8-13, 5-4).

UH returns home for games against Cal State Fullerton and UC Davis next week.
