12-foot shark spotted at North Shore beach

Shark warning signs were posted at Laniakea Beach on Wednesday after a 12-foot shark was seen “eating a turtle,” Ocean Safety officials said.

Lifeguards posted the warning signs at about 5 p.m. and were warning the public.

Lifeguards will check for the shark again at dawn today.

Bicyclist, 78, critical after ending up in lagoon

A 78-year-old bicyclist was in critical condition Wednesday morning after apparently riding into the water at Keehi Lagoon.

A bystander pulled the bicyclist out of the water at about 7:40 a.m., an Emergency Medical Services report said. Paramedics treated the man and took him to a hospital.

Help sought in finding Big Island escapee

Hawaii island police are once again asking for the public’s help finding a 33-year-old man wanted for escape.

Alexander Hill violated the terms of his work furlough when he failed to return to the Hale Nani Correctional Facility on Oct. 2.

Hill, known to frequent the Pahoa area, is described as 5 feet 6 inches tall and 145 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. The names “Alika” and “Mikah” are tattooed on the backs of his hands.
