Black Hawk drops ‘errant bundle’ on Waimanalo Elementary

A Black Hawk helicopter from the 25th Infantry Division at Schofield Barracks dropped an equipment bundle by parachute Thursday that mistakenly landed on the campus of the Waimanalo Elementary and Intermediate School.

The “errant bundle … missed its intended drop zone on Marine Corps Training Area Bellows and landed on the campus of Waimanalo Elementary and Intermediate School. There were no injuries or property damage resulting from this incident,” the 25th Infantry said in a news release.

“The Honolulu Police Department secured the bundle and returned it to the 25th Infantry Division. The bundle drop was part of training designed to teach soldiers to deliver equipment by parachute from helicopters,” the release said.

“The circumstances surrounding this incident are under review to learn and do everything possible to prevent this from happening again,” the release said.
