High surf pounded Makapuu. The trend of cool tradewinds and sizable surf is expected to last through the weekend.

The trend of cool tradewinds and sizable surf is expected to last through the weekend.

A high surf advisory for east shores of isles from Kauai to Hawaii island remains in effect until 6 p.m. Saturday.

Rough surf is expected to continue along east-facing shores into the weekend, according to weather officials, due to a north-northeast swell and strong, onshore winds. Surf is expected to reach 5 to 8 feet along east facing shores, resulting in strong, breaking waves and currents, making swimming dangerous.

A small craft advisory is also in effect for most of Kauai, the Kaiwi Channel, parts of Maui, Oahu and Hawaii island until 6 a.m. Saturday.

Forecasters expect cool and breezy, northeasterly trade winds, with mostly windward and mauka showers, through the weekend.
