Police said Hoolaulea Street is closed between Hoomaemae and Noelani streets because of the investigation at Highlands Intermediate School

A lockdown at Highlands Intermediate School in Pearl City ended today without incident after police responded to a suspicious package found on campus.

A Department of Education spokeswoman said the lockdown was lifted at 2:05 p.m., about three hours after the lockdown began.

Honolulu Police Department spokeswoman Michelle Yu said the suspicious package turned out to be an unattended bag containing clothing and was determined not to pose a threat.

Police initially closed Hoolaulea Street between Hoomaemae and Noelani streets to investigate and have reopened the road.

The school normally ends at 2:10 p.m., and school officials sent parents to Hoomaemae Street to pick up their children before the lockdown ended.
