Man who tried to stop argument in Haleiwa was shot, police say

Police have initiated an attempted murder investigation in Haleiwa after a 40-year-old man sustained multiple gunshot wounds.

Police said an unknown male suspect and another male were involved in an argument shortly after 9:30 p.m. Tuesday. The victim intervened and the suspect shot him multiple times before he fled.

Police responded and temporarily shut down Kamehameha Highway between the Haleiwa Beach Park and Haleiwa Beach House to investigate.

There are no arrests at this time.

The suspect is described to be in his 20s, 6 feet 2 inches and about 150 pounds.
