Moped driver dies in Kaimuki collision

A 25-year-old Waipahu man died Friday evening after his moped collided with a vehicle in Kaimuki.

According to Honolulu police, the victim was traveling east on Waialae Avenue when his moped hit a westbound vehicle operated by a 23-year-old Honolulu man who was making a left turn onto 11th Avenue.

The moped rider, who was wearing a helmet, was thrown onto the roadway and pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been released.

Police said speed may have been a factor in the incident.

This was the 23rd traffic-related death on Oahu this year compared to 18 at the same point last year.
