A woman has died after she was struck by a vehicle while crossing the westbound lanes of the H-1 freeway in Kalihi.

Positive identification is pending.

At about 12:10 a.m. today, police said a vehicle operated by a 72-year-old Honolulu man was traveling westbound on the freeway when the pedestrian, who was wearing dark clothing, walked across four lanes and was struck by the vehicle in the left lane.

The collision occurred approximately 190 feet west of the Vineyard Boulevard onramp.

Emergency Medical Services responded and the woman, described to be in her 30s, was pronounced at the scene.

Police said the 72-year-old man did not sustain any injuries. Speed or alcohol were not factors in the collision.

This is the 24th traffic-related fatality on Oahu compared to 21 at the same time last year.

An investigation is ongoing.
