Victim in fatal crash near Kualoa Ranch identified as Kaneohe man

The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office has identified a 60-year-old man who died near Kualoa Ranch after a pickup truck plowed into him as Karllton Gorai Sr. of Kaneohe.

Gorai died Friday after a black Nissan pickup truck operated by a man in his late 30s failed to negotiate a curve on Kamehameha Highway and struck him and two other people at about 12:50 a.m. that morning.

Gorai was pronounced dead at the scene after he became pinned against a stone wall. Police said a 44-year-old woman and a 47-year-old man were transported to a hospital in critical condition.

Police arrested the pickup driver that morning on suspicion of one count of negligent homicide and two counts of negligent injury. He was released Saturday pending further investigation.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to call the Honolulu Police Department’s Traffic Division at 723-3413.
