Maui Fire Department crews contained a brush fire in Pukalani today.

Maui Fire Department crews contained at 4:30 p.m. a brush fire in Pukalani that came within 20 feet of homes on Aina Lani Drive.

The fire department got the call at about 2:40 p.m. of a brush fire in a gulch next to Aina Lani Drive.

Two engines, a tanker and a battalion chief were sent out.

Crews found a half acre of brush actively burning on the north slope when they arrived and 20 feet from homes.

Air 1 was dispatched to assist late this afternoon because the steep terrain makes access difficult for ground crews.

There have been no reports of injuries or property damage. The cause of the fire remains undetermined.
