Pedestrian, 82, hit twice in Salt Lake crosswalk

Traffic investigators are asking for the public’s help in locating a white Ford vehicle that hit a pedestrian on Ala Ilima Street in Salt Lake who had just been struck by another vehicle Sunday night.

The initial collision occurred around 8:50 p.m. when a red Honda heading west hit an 82-year-old man who was in a crosswalk at 2962 Ala Ilima Street, police said.

As the 43-year-old, male driver of the Honda rendered aid to the man, a white Ford with unknown license plates that was heading in the opposite direction then struck the injured pedestrian again, police said.

Paramedics took the pedestrian to a trauma center in serious condition.

Neither speed nor alcohol played a role in the initial collision, but rain may have been a factor, police said.

Anyone with information on the white Ford is asked to call Honolulu police traffic investigators at 723-3413.
