VIDEO: Cool costumes spotted during Comic Con Honolulu at Hawaii Convention Center

Friday was the first day of the three-day Comic Con Honolulu giving comic, sci-fi, television, movie and gaming fans the perfect excuse to dress up as their favorite costumed characters.

Local residents and visitors gathered at the Hawaii Convention Center to geek out with like-minded people. On their bucket list: Attend panels, meet local artists and vendors, collect autographs from the stars and — of course — show off their costumes.

Costumes from comic books, movies, and cartoons entertained Comic Con attendees.

BATMAN BEYOND

Why did you decide to dress up as this character?

“I loved the cartoon growing up. It’s a great cartoon, great concept, especially because I thought it was going to be terrible. It’s a fun costume, but you don’t really see it that much.”

How many times have you attended Comic Con Honolulu?

“This is actually my first one. I moved here last January.”

What are you looking forward to?

“Comics, collectibles, any cool cosplays. I like going around and getting my picture taken with different cosplayers.”

CONNOR KENWAY

“Not this one specifically. The last one I went to was the San Diego Comic Con.”

What are you looking forward to?

“Me and my sister are good fans of ‘Harry Potter,’ so we’re looking forward to go to say hi to Jason Issacs because I heard he was here. I also know he played The Inquistor in ‘Star Wars Rebels.’ I am a big fan of that show and I am a big fan of The Inquistors. I think that’s the No. 1 thing. I am a huge ‘Star Wars’ nerd, too.”

Why did you decide to dress up as this character?

“I’m actually a U.S. Army sniper — the real deal, so technically, I’m not supposed to be seen. But because I’m a recruiter now, I thought it’ll just be an eye catcher for people to come see me, take pictures.”

“This is actually my first one. I’m kind of new to this area.”

COLOSSUS

Why did you decide to dress up as this character?

“You know him from ‘Deadpool.’ He’s like a background star. I chose Colossus, because he believes in people. He’s for the people; he believes in good people. He really looks after the children of the future. With everything going on right now, I believe in our children. Kids should be kids for as long as they can.”

How many times have you attended Comic Con Honolulu?

“Total, my entire life, I’ve been to 10.”

What are you looking forward to?

“I want to see some of the guest appearances, celebrities. Just seeing the outfits. We have a lot of friends here, because we come to a lot of conventions here on Oahu. Just seeing if there’s anything new.”

GOKU

Why did you decide to dress up as this character?

“‘Dragon Ball’ — the whole series — has been my favorite forever, for a long time. Goku has been my all-time favorite character.”

“Third time or fourth time. I try to go to all the cons, so it’s just kind of a blur.”

What are you looking forward to?

“I just like being here. I like seeing all the costumes and talking to all the people. Everyone is a nerd here and they are comfortable with being a nerd here. Conversations come super easy and everyone is just happy to be around everyone else—that’s the best part.”

RUBY ROSE

“She is a really cool character. She is always super optimistic. She just keeps trying to motivate everybody and I really admire that in anybody, especially an animated character.”

What are you looking forward to?

“Honestly, they have a lot of ‘Overwatch’ voice actors. I really want to go to the panel. It looks really cool.”

“I’m here to see Laurel Lance from ‘The Green Arrow’ and the other cast members. I’m looking forward to that.”

“Originally I was supposed to do a group cosplay, but that didn’t go too well. So I was playing some Mario Party 64 and I always played Toad in that game, so I was like, ‘Hey, why don’t I just cosplay as Toad?’”

“I’ve been to all the past three, including this one.”

What are you looking forward to?

“I am looking forward to meeting some of my fellow cosplayers and that’s pretty much all.”
