Rainbow Wahine sweep Coastal Carolina for first volleyball win of season

Senior hitter McKenna Granato put down 15 kills and Hawaii avoided its first 0-3 start since 1980 by sweeping Coastal Carolina 25-17, 25-21, 25-17 in a nonconference volleyball match tonight at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Junior Norene Iosia, used as both a setter and outside hitter, added eight kills and sophomore middle Skyler Williams had five kills with no errors and the first three aces of her career for the Rainbow Wahine (1-2)

Iosia finished with a double-double (17 assists-13 digs). Senior libero Tita Akiu had 12 digs.

Freshman hitter Anett Nemeth led the Chanticleers (1-3) with seven kills. She came into the match averaging 4.5 a set. Junior libero Carla Cahill had 14 digs.

The teams meet again at 7 p.m. Friday.
