No tsunami threat to Hawaii following earthquake near Kermadec Islands

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said a destructive Pacific-wide tsunami is not expected based on available data.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said there is no tsunami threat to Hawaii following a 6.9 magnitude earthquake south of the Kermadec Islands.

The earthquake occurred at 6:19 p.m. Hawaii time. The center said a destructive Pacific-wide tsunami is not expected based on available data.

The Kermadec Islands are located northeast of New Zealand’s North Island.
