Four years ago when my wife and I were visiting your fine city, we scaled the Koko Crater walk and absolutely loved it. The walk is a challenge but thrilling, and the views at the top are some of the best in Honolulu. We were surprised to learn that the track was not maintained by the state or city.

The track is used by a significant number of people — some for fitness, others for the challenge and some just to get to the top for those stunning views.

I have recommended the trail to colleagues and friends from New Zealand lucky to be visiting Honolulu. On our visit this year, I made a point of scaling the Koko Crater for my 50th birthday and noticed the deterioration in the track since our last visit.

It is one of the best attractions in Hawaii. Public funding should be put into this great track before it becomes so dangerous that no one will be able to enjoy the history of the site, that excellent workout and those fantastic views.
