Approximately 614,400 gallons of raw sewage overflowed in Waipio after a 48-inch force main broke Saturday night.

Crews from the city’s Department of Environmental Services responded to the Waipio Peninsula area at 7:25 p.m. Saturday and worked to divert service in the area to a neighboring 42-inch parallel force main.

The overflow was secured at 2:45 a.m. today. The Dept. of Environmental Services also notified the state Department of Health and will return to the area this morning to continue disinfecting and deodorizing efforts.

Residents living between Halawa to West Loch are asked to conserve water until repairs are completed in order to help reduce wastewater flow while crews continue working in the area.
