A high surf advisory has been issued for the south and west facing shores of Oahu, Kauai and Niihau, in effect until 6 p.m. Thursday, weather officials said.

The National Weather Service said surf is expected to reach six to 10 feet high along the south facing shores, and eight to 12 feet high along the west facing shores of Oahu, Kauai and Niihau tonight and Thursday.

Beachgoers, swimmers and surfers are advised to expect strong breaking waves, shore break, and strong longshore and rip currents making swimming difficult and dangerous. The public should heed all advice given by Ocean Safety officials.
