Riki Maeda is expected to plead guilty in federal court to stealing $180,203 from the Hawaii Youth Soccer Association Maui Youth League.

The treasurer of the Hawaii Youth Soccer Association Maui Youth League is expected to plead guilty in federal court to stealing $180,203 from the league.

Federal prosecutors charged Riki Maeda last Friday with one count of bank fraud.

No court date has yet been scheduled for Maeda to answer to the charge.

Prosecutors say Maeda, 57, stole the money between September 2014 and March this year by writing unauthorized checks made payable to himself from the HYSA bank account, then depositing the checks into his personal bank account.

In order to make the checks appear legitimate, prosecutors say Maeda forged the signatures of other HYSA Maui officials who had signatory authority over the league’s bank account. Maeda is also accused of writing false information on the memo sections of the checks to make it appear that the checks had been issued to reimburse him for legitimate HYSA Maui expenses.
