Police closed the Anahulu Bridge at 66-001 Kamehameha Highway in Haleiwa for nearly two hours overnight as they investigated a critical motor vehicle crash.

According to the Honolulu Police Department, a 29-year-old female from Wahiawa was traveling north on Kamehemeha at 11:30 p.m. Friday when her vehicle crossed into the southbound lane of the highway and struck a concrete pillar that is part of the bridge.

The woman was taken to an area hospital in critical condition and the bridge remained closed in both directions until 1:30 a.m. today.

Police said alcohol appears to be a factor in the crash, but speed wasn’t; an investigation continues.
