Police arrest missing furlough inmate in Waikiki

Police arrested a 34-year-old work furlough inmate in Waikiki early today after she failed to return to the Women’s Community Correctional Center’s furlough housing unit last week.

Ashley Akana was arrested at or near the Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort & Spa at approximately 3 a.m. today on suspicion of second-degree escape.

The Hawaii Department of Public Safety said Akana failed to return to the correctional facility’s housing unit by 9:30 p.m. on Oct. 24. Sheriffs and police were notified.

She is serving a sentence for promoting dangerous drugs in the third degree, burglary in the first degree and theft offenses.
