Rescue specialists will resume their search today for a 55-year-old Lihue man reported missing Saturday in waters off the beach area known as Marine Camp, near the Wailua Golf Course.

His identity has not yet been released.

According to a preliminary report, the man was diving with a friend this morning and was last seen standing on the reef while attempting to retrieve a fishing net. The friend lost sight of him and called 911 shortly before 9:30 a.m. Saturday.

Kapaa firefighters, lifeguards on personal watercraft and rescue specialists aboard the Air 1 helicopter searched by air and sea search. The U.S. Coast Guard also assisted, sending its Air Station Barbers Point HM-65 Dolphin helicopter and Station Kauai 45-foot vessel.

The search was suspended at approximately 5 p.m. .
