Boys played near the edge of Kaelepulu Stream, in Jan. 2011, in Kailua. Chun’s, Waimea Bay, as well as Waimanalo and Kailua beach parks are under a brown water advisory.

The state Health Department this morning issued a brown water advisory for Chun’s on the North Shore of Oahu after heavy rains resulted in stormwater runoff entering coastal waters.

A brown water advisory issued on Friday for Waimea Bay, as well as Waimanalo and Kailua beach parks on Oahu also remains in effect.

The public is advised to stay out of flood waters and storm water runoff due to possible overflowing cesspools, sewer, manholes, pesticides, animal fecal matter, dead animals, pathogens, chemicals and associated flood debris. While not all coastal areas may be affected by runoff, the public is advised to stay out if the water is brown. The public is also advised to continue practicing good personal hygiene and to follow up with a primary care physician with any health concerns.
