A 41-year-old man charged with murder in connection with the death of a 23-year-old man in Kahaluu made his initial court appearance in District Court today.

Samuel J. Campiformio stood before Judge Trish Morikawa after prosecutors charged him Saturday with second-degree murder in the death of the victim who has been identified by the Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office as Kenneth Ratzlaff.

His bail is set at $500,000.

Police responded to a property on Ahaolelo Road Thursday after dispatchers received a 911 call from an individual who reported hearing “some suspicious commotion” in the area.

Officers arrived and found the body of a man later identified as Ratzlaff in a shipping container on the property with injuries to his torso.

Police said Ratzlaff was Campiformio’s tenant.
