Hawaii island police said Wednesday the death of a 6-year-old boy last month in Kona involved trauma and his death has been ruled a homicide.

Initially, police said the boy’s death was suspicious and his injuries were not consistent with an accident. An autopsy was performed on the boy Tuesday.

Family members brought the unconscious child to the Kailua Fire Station at about 4:30 p.m. Oct. 31. He was taken by ambulance to the Kona Community Hospital where he died an hour later.

Police are continuing their investigation into his death.

The boy was involved in an incident at an apartment complex in the 74-900 block of Manawalea Street in Kona.

Police are asking anyone who may have seen a commotion at the apartment complex to call detective Jerome Manuel at 326-4646 ext. 262 or email him at jerome.manuel@hawaiicounty.gov.
