Boy, 12, critical after being struck on Vineyard Boulevard

Honolulu police closed all westbound lanes of Vineyard Boulevard between Liliha Street and Pua Lane this morning as they investigated a traffic collision involving a pedestrian.

Around 6:30 a.m., a 12-year-old male was crossing Vineyard at Pua Lane when he was struck by a compact sport utility vehicle.

Honolulu Emergency Services said the boy, who was reportedly riding a razor scooter at the time he was crossing the street, suffered head and chest injuries. He was not in a marked crosswalk when he was hit.

Paramedics performed advanced life support and transported the boy to a nearby trauma center in critical condition.

All lanes were reopened to traffic at approximately 7:45 a.m.

Correction: The boy struck by a vehicle while crossing Vineyard Boulevard was 12 years old. The Honolulu Police Department provided an incorrect age when first reporting the incident.
