High surf advisory in effect for north shores of most isles

Weather officials have issued a high surf advisory for the north and west shores of Niihau and Kauai, and the north shores of Oahu, Molokai and Maui, starting at noon today through 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Surf is expected to reach heights of 10 to 15 feet at noon today, and continue through Wednesday evening. Moderate impacts are expected, with strong, breaking waves and strong currents, making swimming difficult and dangerous. The public should exercise caution and heed all advice from Ocean Safety officials.

The Vans Triple Crown of Surfing on Oahu’s North Shore launched the first day of competition with the Hawaiian Pro on Monday. The competition was called off for today, according to the World Surf League. The next call will be at 7 a.m. Wednesday.
