Arson confirmed in Kaneohe recreation center fire

    Honolulu firefighters respond to a blaze at the Puu Alii Community Center Monday night in Kaneohe.

The Honolulu Fire Department has determined a fire at a recreation center in Kaneohe Monday was intentionally set.

The case has been turned over to police who have initiated a first-degree arson investigation.

Police said a woman witnessed several juveniles just before the fire. There are no arrests at this time.

The blaze occurred shortly before 5:50 p.m. Monday at the Puu Alii Community Association recreation center located at 46-058 Aliianela Place.

Firefighters found smoke and flames coming from the roof when they arrived. The blaze was extinguished at 7:20 p.m.

No injuries were reported.

Damage was estimated at $380,000 to the structure and its contents.
