Police investigating after body discovered in burned Pahoa studio

Hawaii County firefighters discovered a dead body at the scene of a Pahoa structure fire that caused $180,000 in damage early this morning.

The body was discovered as firefighters mopped up the fire to the one-story structure at 16-2421 Ainaloa Drive. Police said firefighters found the body in a small detached studio that was fully engulfed in flames when they arrived.

The fire was reported at 1:23 a.m. and the first of 13 firefighters arrived at 1:34 a.m. The blaze was extinguished at 2:05 a.m.

Police said an autopsy has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death. An unattended death case has been opened.
