Waipahu killer at large after man found with gunshot wound to the head

Honolulu police have initiated a murder investigation in connection with a deadly shooting in Waipahu.

Police said officers responded a report of gunshots on Waipahu Street near a strip club at the intersection of Waipahu Depot Road sometime between 10:30 p.m. and 10:45 p.m. Sunday.

Lt. Deena Thoemmes of the Honolulu Police Department’s Homicide Detail said witnesses heard one to two gunshots discharged in the area.

When officers arrived, they discovered an unresponsive male in his 20s with a gunshot wound to the head.

Emergency Medical Services personnel responded and pronounced the man dead at the scene.

Positive identification is pending.

Thoemmes said the suspect fled the scene and remains at large.

There is no description of the assailant at this time.

Anyone with information on the shooting is urged to call CrimeStoppers at 955-8300.
