Honolulu police have released, pending investigation, a 22-year-old man they arrested Friday for arson at a house fire in Waipahu. They released him Saturday.

The Honolulu Fire Department declared the single-story, three-bedroom home on Lumi Street in the Crestview subdivision a total loss but investigators have yet to determine the cause. The department said 34 firefighters from 10 units responded to the fire and got it extinguished one hour after they arrived.

Police said the suspect sustained burns to his arms and legs in the fire. Two other people, a man and a woman, got scratched and bruised escaping from the home through a window. There were no other people in the home at the time.

HFD says two women and four men, including the suspect, lived in the home. The American Red Cross is assisting them.
