Tree trimming to close Kalakaua Avenue lane

City officials are informing motorists that tree trimming will require the intermittent closure of one lane of Kalakaua Avenue between S. King Street and Kapiolani Boulevard, starting Wednesday morning.

The city’s Division of Urban Forestry crews will be trimming Mahogany trees on the median strip along that portion of the avenue between 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. from Wednesday through Friday. Only one lane in each direction will be closed at a given time.

Officials said the trees are also registered homes for the nests of the city’s official bird — the Manu-o-Ku, or white tern — and will be conducted in accordance with guidelines to protect the seabirds.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible while the trees are being trimmed.
