Maui County recognizes top individuals

Maui County recognized its 2018 employee, manager and team of the year last week at Kihei Community Center.

Taylor Kamakawiwoole, a community policing officer with the Maui Police Department, was honored as Employee of the Year for his work with homeless populations.

Manager of the Year honors went to Kathleen Aoki, an administrative planning officer with the Department of Planning. She was praised for her communication skills and ability to make quick decisions.

The Department of Public Works’ Plumbing Section was named Team of the Year for its efforts to explore new solutions and research new technology and methods. The team is made up of Jerry Tanaka, Nalani Yap, Ben Aganos Sr., Ben Aganos Jr., Daniel Tengan, Maurice Shimabukuro and Daniel Pascua.
