Fire destroyed a 600-square-foot structure in a remote area above upper Kanaio Road on Thursday morning.
The fire was reported at 8:09 a.m. The Maui Fire Department dispatched crews from Kula, Makawao and Kahului, as well as its Air 1 helicopter crew, but the structure was already completely destroyed.
Due to rugged terrain, firefighters used four-wheel-drive brush trucks to get water to the fire and Air 1 dropped water from the air.
The fire was deemed extinguished by 2:40 p.m.
No injuries were reported. The cause could not be determined.
