A 35-year-old man died Sunday after he was crushed by the bucket of a backhoe in Hauula.

Positive identification is pending.

Honolulu Fire Department Capt. Scot Seguirant said a mechanic was working on a backhoe when he became pinned between the backhoe and its bucket.

Four HFD units responded to 54-154 Hauula Homestead Road at about 1:25 p.m. and used extrication equipment to free the man, Seguirant said.

Emergency Medical Services treated and took the man to a hospital in critical condition.

Police said he later died from injuries.

According to property tax records, the lot where the incident occurred is residential property with no structures.
