The state Health Department this afternoon issued brown water advisories for Waimea Bay on Oahu as well as Hanalei Bay on Kauai due to storm water runoff entering coastal waters.

On Kauai, health officials also issued brown water advisories for Koloa Landing, Nawiliwili Bay, Wailua Bay, Lydgate Park, and Kealia Beach.

Earlier this morning, a brown water advisory was issued for Makao Beach in Hauula on Oahu’s windward side.

The public is advised to stay out of storm water runoff due to possible overflowing cesspools and sewers and the possible presence of pesticides, animal fecal matter, dead animals, pathogens, chemicals, and associated flood debris.

While not all coastal areas may be impacted by runoff, the public is advised to stay out if the water is brown, continue to practice good personal hygiene and follow up with a primary care physician with any health concerns.
