Haiku residents displaced after fire destroys home

    Maui firefighters responded to a fire that destroyed a single-story home in Haiku.

Four Haiku residents are displaced today after a fire destroyed their single-story home.

Maui firefighters responded at 9:05 a.m. to reports of a structure fire on Kahiapo Place in Haiku.

Fire crews from Makawao, Paia and Kahului discovered the home fully engulfed in flames. Firefighters extinguished the blaze at 12:15 p.m. today.

Four residents, who were at home during the time of the fire, escaped safely. No injuries were reported. The Hawaii Red Cross assisted the residents.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. The estimated cost of the damage has yet to be determined.
