UC Santa Barbara beats Hawaii on walk-off single

Cole Mueller’s walk-off single boosted UC Santa Barbara to a 6-5 baseball victory over Hawaii today at Caesar Uyesaka Stadium.

In the bottom of the ninth, Tommy Jew reached on a one-out single and went to third on Thomas Rowan’s double to center. Jew scored on pinch hitter Sam Cohen’s sacrifice fly to tie it at 5.

Then Mueller singled to right-center to score Rowan with the winning run.

The Rainbow Warriors had taken a 5-4 lead in the top of the ninth on Dustin Demeter’s solo homer. The blast came on the 18th pitch of the at-bat.

The ’Bows fell to 26-24 overall and 10-13 in the Big West. The Gauchos are 27-27 and 10-13.

The teams meet Saturday at 11 a.m. Hawaii time in the regular-season finale.
