Ewa Beach surfer didn’t suffer shark bite, but skeg injury

A surfer off Hau Bush in Ewa Beach Saturday morning wasn’t bitten by a shark, but injured by a surfboard skeg.

The state Department of Land and Natural Resources Divison of Aquatic Resources said in a press release today that the 48-year-old man on Saturday told paramedics he had possibly been bitten on the lower left leg by a shark, but in an interview today said he believed the injury came from the skeg.

Honolulu EMS responded to the incident and transported the man to an emergency room in serious condition. EMS had reported the man said he did not see a shark, but said his injuries were consistent with a possible bite.
