AmeriCorps has deployed three teams to Hawaii island to help assist survivors of the Kilauea eruption.
The teams, which total 20 individuals, all serve through FEMA Corps, a unit of AmeriCorps Corporation for National and Community Service.
The AmeriCorps members will conduct mobile needs-assessments and provide on-site registration and referrals. Through on-the-ground surveys, they will deliver survivor and community information to FEMA to address survivors’ needs.
The 20 young people were previously deployed to Puerto Rico to support Hurricane Maria recovery efforts.
FREE HEALTH SERVICES ARRIVE
Free health services will be available on Hawaii island beginning today at Keaau High School as part of a health clinic project by the state, county and the U.S. Army Reserves.
The Oahu-based 1984th U.S. Army Hospital will offer medical health screenings, physical exams veteran services and more.
“Especially in the wake of the ongoing volcanic eruptions, the people of Hawaii island need efficient access to health and wellness services now more than ever,” said Dr. Bruce Anderson, the state’s health director.
Tropic Care 2018 is open to residents of all ages with no identification or proof of insurance needed. It will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. today through Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and June 25 through 28.
