Jesse Nakanishi, center, celebrated after his Kamehameha team won the state basketball championship over ‘Iolani on Feb. 19, 2011. After stops at Hawaii Pacific University and Seattle, he joins the University of Hawaii men’s basketball team as its director of operations.

The University of Hawaii men’s basketball team completed its coaching staff with the hiring of Jabari Trotter as assistant coach and Jesse Nakanishi as director of operations, head coach Eran Ganot announced today.

Trotter and Nakanishi fill the positions vacated with the departures of Marlon Stewart and Todd Okeson. Stewart, who served as UH’s defensive coordinator and post players coach, joined Oregon State as director of operations. Okeson, who was the Rainbow Warriors’ DOP, resigned to pursue other opportunities.

Trotter spent the past two seasons as an assistant coach at Dartmouth, his alma mater. He was a combo guard for the Big Green, playing in 112 games through the 2011-12 season. Trotter played professionally in Ireland. He then coached at Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire and served a director of operations at Lehigh before joining Dartmouth’s staff.

Nakanishi is a Kamehameha Schools graduate who played at Lewis & Clark College. He coached at Hawaii Pacific University from 2011 through 2017, the past four seasons as associate head coach. Nakanishi, who earned a master’s degree from UH, was Seattle University’s director of operations the past academic year.

The Rainbow Warriors will report ahead of the July 2 start of UH’s second summer session.
