A 27-year-old Maryland man who was reported missing four days prior after going on a hike alone on Molokai was found dead Friday, Maui police said.
Stephen Kramar was last seen Monday leaving the Wavecrest Resort in Kaunakakai, Molokai. He was returning from a hike earlier in the day, but never made it back, Maui police said.
At 9:16 a.m. Friday, a volunteer assisting with the search for Kramar found a lifeless body on the hillside in an area called Pia Gulch, about a half-mile northeast of the Wavecrest Resort, Maui Police Department spokesman Lt. Gregg Okamoto said.
The body was identified as Kramar’s, Okamoto said. An autopsy will be scheduled.
On MPD’s Facebook page, Jeffanie Kramar said she and Stephen were on their honeymoon on Molokai when Stephen went out for a hike alone. She said she last heard from him at about 2:30 p.m. Monday, and he said he was on his way back.
NAALEHU CRASH VICTIM IDENTIFIED
Hawaii island police on Friday identified the 19-year-old woman who died after her car crashed into a utility pole late Thursday as Brittney Perry of Naalehu.
An autopsy is pending to determine the exact cause of death, but police said they believed inattention was a factor in the crash. It was not immediately known whether alcohol or drugs were involved, they said.
Officers responded to a call at 11:48 p.m. after a 2002 Honda Accord sedan traveling north near the 58-mile marker of Hawaii Belt Road ran off the highway and struck a utility pole, according to a Hawaii Police Department news release.
Police found her unresponsive at the scene. She was transported to the Hilo Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead at 4:03 a.m.
Anyone who witnessed the crash can call Hawaii officer Kimo Keliipaakaua at 326-4646, extension 229.
This is the 23rd Hawaii island fatal traffic accident this year compared with 26 at the same time last year.
